Experiential Learning Funding
Block Career Center Advisors can help you explore funding options for experiential learning that would otherwise be unpaid. These options include Tufts-specific programs like Tisch Summer Fellows, as well as other funding opportunities available through the generosity of donors and external organizations.
Virginia and Dr. Elie J. Baghdady Fund for Maternal and Child Nutrition
This fund helps malnourished children and mothers throughout the world by supporting the development of humanitarians skilled in international nutrition interventions and policies. It extends support to master’s degree students who are in need of financial support to take an internship opportunity based in a developing country that is related to maternal and child malnutrition and/or hunger. This is an endowed fund and supports one student annually.
The John Hancock Healthy Neighborhoods Program
A collaborative initiative between John Hancock and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, the fund provides financial support to Friedman School students who are pursuing internships and other experiential learning opportunities at local non-profit organizations that John Hancock partners with, focused on addressing some of the most significant challenges in the City of Boston, e.g., by food access, nutrition insecurity, chronic disease, and affordable housing.
Branchfood Innovation Fund
The Branchfood Innovation Fund has been created to support students and their entrepreneurial ideas that inspire innovation in the food and nutrition space. The Fund will provide students an opportunity to develop and evaluate their business ideas in food, nutrition, agriculture, and technology, supporting advancement in these fields. The goal is to provide students with focused time and resources to work on their ideas, foster creativity, and stimulate thinking.
Leah K. Horowitz Memorial Fund
Funds are given in memory of Friedman School alumna, Leah K. Horowitz, N06, to recognize those who embody her commitment to addressing complex problems in the food system in ways that empower individuals and communities. Many students who receive funding do fieldwork during their internships (domestic and international). This is a yearly gift.
Tisch Summer Fellows (TSF)
The TSF program offers substantive internships that allow students to gain real-world skills, grow their networks, and explore career paths while building stronger communities on a local, national, or international level. TSF fellowships are available for undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students.
