Ways to Get Involved with Local & National Public Policy, Legislation and Advocacy

Looking for a way to influence food and nutrition policies and programs? The Massachusetts Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MAND) website offers information about getting involved with both local and national nutrition policy. As a state affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy), MAND promotes public policy and advocates for issues in line with those of the Academy.

The Academy’s current legislative priorities include the following:

  1. Access to Frontline Health Care Act and health care workers
  2. Breastfeeding in the workplace
  3. Child Nutrition Reauthorization
  4. CMS rules on therapeutic diet orders
  5. Farm Bill and federal nutrition programs (SNAP, TEFAP)
  6. Food Safety Modernization Act
  7. Licensure, professional regulation and telehealth
  8. Malnutrition recognition, treatment and prevention
  9. Older Americans Act, meals on wheels and congregate dining
  10. Preventing Diabetes in Medicare Act
  11. Prevention and Public Health Fund
  12. Treat and Reduce Obesity Act

To learn more, check out the MAND website as well as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics site. The latter includes info about tracking legislation and getting involved locally.
