Reports to the VP of Marketing

Tonum Health – www.tonum.com – is redefining what natural supplements can do for metabolic and brain health. Our science-first approach has led to the development of innovative natural compounds backed by rigorous research that deliver results comparable to pharmaceuticals — without the cost or side effects. Our first two products, Motus (for metabolic health and weight loss) and Nouro (for cognitive performance and neuroprotection), launch in 2025 after 9 years of animal and human clinical research with Duke University.

We’re building a movement around performance, prevention, and longevity — and we’re looking for a mission-aligned leader to help us scale our message through trusted voices.

Role Summary – Director, Strategic Content Development

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on creative content leader with a strong background in developing high-performing social media and digital content for both consumers and the scientific community.

The right candidate must have an advanced life sciences degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a scientific and strategic content development role at a leading nutritional supplement company with a well-established digital presence.

Direct experience crafting content for metabolic or brain health products and scaling them via social media campaigns will be prioritized.

A bachelors degree in life sciences is required, along with the ability to translate complex science into consumer-friendly and regulatory-compliant messages. The ideal candidate understands best practices for developing persuasive messaging across platforms while adhering to FDA, FTC, and social media platform guidelines.

This is a ground-floor leadership opportunity for someone with a proven track record of scaling DTC wellness or supplement brands through content that resonates, converts, and builds lasting trust.

Key Responsibilities

Creative and Strategic Content Development

  • Own the creative direction and oversee the execution of content across all social platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Meta, YouTube, X, Reddit).
  • Develop and manage a scalable content calendar focused on science-based storytelling, consumer education, and brand voice.
  • Create written, video, and visual content optimized for platform-specific formats and audiences.
  • Collaborate with internal and external science, marketing, and product teams to translate research into engaging narratives.
  • Bonus: Is capable of directing, filming, and editing their own video content for Reels, TikTok, and long-form videos for YouTube and our website

Work with Outside Content Firms

  • Source, brief, and manage relationships with third-party creative agencies, freelance writers, video editors, and designers.
  • Ensure all outsourced content maintains consistency in tone, scientific accuracy, visual quality, and compliance.
  • Establish SOPs and creative review processes to streamline external content production.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with social media, influencer, public relations, and product teams to ensure unified messaging and campaign alignment.
  • Collaborate with regulatory consultants to ensure all content is compliant with FDA/FTC requirements.
  • Contribute to campaign strategy meetings and brand planning initiatives.

Oversee Influencer and Affiliate Content

  • Create briefs focused on storytelling for a variety of different influencer niches and audience subgroups that prioritizes a product and science first-approach, while remaining engaging and true to the native platforms.
  • Review and approve content created by influencers and affiliates before it goes live to ensure it meets brand, legal, and platform standards.
  • Provide creative toolkits, onboarding materials, and performance feedback to optimize creator output.
  • Monitor affiliate performance and identify high-potential creators for expanded partnerships.

Events

  • Represent the brand at live events, trade shows, and activations where influencers and media are present.
  • Work with the marketing team and partners to co-create branded experiences that bring our mission to life.
  • Capture and repurpose event content for post-activation marketing campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in a life science field (e.g., biology, nutrition, neuroscience, pharmacology) is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in creative content development with a recognized science-backed nutritional supplement or scientifically focused brand with an established social media presence.
  • Proven success in developing high-converting, compliant content that drove growth in engagement, traffic, and revenue.
  • Deep fluency in social media platforms and creator culture, with a portfolio of content that reflects strong performance.
  • Experience with influencer and affiliate platforms (e.g., Social Snowball, Sprout Social,).
  • Exceptional copywriting, visual direction, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities; experience scaling content teams and workflows is a plus.
  • Knowledge of FDA/FTC guidelines and industry-specific compliance best practices.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary
  • Performance-based bonus structure
  • Early-stage equity plan
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
  • A leadership role with direct impact on brand identity and market success
  • The chance to shape the voice of a science-first wellness brand redefining what’s possible in natural health
  • An entrepreneurial culture rooted in science, integrity, and purpose
