Share Our Strength’s Health Strategies work primarily pursues opportunities to leverage health care systems and partners to increase access to federal nutrition programs and food access for children and families. Reporting to the Director, Health Strategies, the Senior Manager will be responsible for implementing the goals of related strategic partnerships, including oversight for the planning, implementation and evaluation and reporting critical to advancing our strategic partnerships with managed care organizations, including our Nutrition in Housing partnerships. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for the analysis and production of position papers and presentations of our Health Strategies demonstration projects to further strategic partner engagement and health sector pipeline. The Senior Manager, Health Strategies will also serve in an internal liaison capacity to effectively collaborate on advancing health strategies with multiple departments.
The role is preferably based in Washington, DC, but could be fully remote for the right candidate. This position offers a range $80,000-$86,000.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the implementation of our Nutrition in Housing model, including working with a broader team, including Family Economic Opportunity, to identify location and build on-the-ground plans, evaluation processes and partners. Also develop planning for the Projects to be replicable and scalable as part of social determinants of health investments in housing.
- Contribute research, outreach, and partnership development to the planning for a multi-market partnerships with Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) that builds on current preventative care pilot in Louisiana. Manage implementation of expanded strategic partnership with current and other MCOS, including partner facilitation, monitoring and coaching to capture learning, metrics, and stated objectives and impacts.
- Evaluate and measure process, data collection, and outcomes across multiple and concurrent health strategies demonstration projects.
- Analyze process and results across Health Strategies’ demonstration projects. Work with Health Associate to produce position papers and conference presentations for the purpose of strengthening internal and core external partner engagement, while also providing materials for developing partner pipeline.
- Advance the development of health strategies goals by contributing to research and knowledge base, partner identification, and by developing process and models to replicate programmatic successes.
- Research, develop and maintain a sound understanding of the health care systems most utilized by our priority audiences, anticipating issues and trends that can affect our health strategies, and recommending adjustments and tactics for health strategies goals as needed. Serve as team expert in affordable housing. Utilize research to contribute recommendations to Health Strategies’ plans for replication and scale of demonstration projects.
- Contribute to cross-team communication related to health strategies efforts, leverage organizational assets and build strong working relationships internally to maximize impact of health strategies, including Early Childhood, Family Economic Opportunity, Center for Best Practices, Field, Innovation, Communications, Advocacy, Shared Support, and Cooking Matters teams.
- Cultivate and manage productive relationships with key external stakeholders in the health care, wellness and nutrition, housing, evaluation and DEI fields.
- Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength’s work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.

- Degree in public health or related field with 5-8 years’ work experience in the field of community health benefits, health care, public health, health equity, with a record of increasingly responsible positions. Experience with Medicaid and health systems, and experience collaborating with or working with affordable housing communities status highly desirable.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain positive, mutually beneficial relationships, internally and externally.
- Knowledge of and relationships with health care systems and affordable housing communities serving those with low socioeconomic status, and their funding mechanisms, as well as deep understanding of social determinants of health and health equity. Knowledge of food insecurity and its contributing factors, as well as federal nutrition programs and promising practices to end childhood hunger.
- Experience developing evaluation processes using validated tools, data collection methods, and data analysis and reporting.
- Successful record of accomplishment managing multiple complex projects simultaneously and demonstrated ability to initiate, organize, prioritize and work independently.
- Accustomed to and skilled in working in a team culture focused on accountability, achieving goals, collaboration, and innovation.
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
- Experience working with state and local government officials, state agency staff, businesses and community-based organizations and engaging low-income communities.
- Outstanding communications skills in presenting, speaking, and writing.
- Successful record of accomplishment of achieving results through persuasion and collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently and proactively in a fluid, dynamic environment.
