Intern responsibilities will vary based upon your area of interest and department placement.
AMI – Customer & Community Engagement (Waltham, MA)
Our AMI – Customer & Community Engagement team focuses on delivering an excellent customer experience as we transition to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) through implementation and continuous refinement of our customer engagement plan. The team strives to increase awareness on AMI and share the voices of our customer through in-field experience, feedback, data, and market research. For the summer you will work alongside other team members to organize, attend, and refine customer and community events.
Regulatory Assurance & Corporate Compliance (Waltham, MA)
Our Regulatory Assurance & Corporate Compliance team supports the company achieving its strategic objectives by executing 2nd line assurance for our operations team, reviewing corporate compliance obligations, and conducting key performance indicator (KPI) reporting. For the summer you will oversee controls testing, which will include testing of design and operating effectiveness. You will also work on different projects related to compliance performance reporting.
US Compliance (Waltham, MA)
Our US Compliance team is responsible for managing the risk of non-compliance for all regulatory requirements that apply to our business operations. The team administers our regulatory requirement inventory, helps the company develop and maintain compliance controls, performs independent tests of those controls, and reports on compliance performance. For the summer you will assist the team in regulatory requirement review, controls development and testing, and analysis and reporting on compliance performance.
US Policy & Regulatory Strategy (Waltham, MA)
Our US Policy & Regulatory Strategy team develops and advances policy and regulation to support the company’s electric and gas businesses. The team places a focus on clean energy and climate strategies that will allow us to achieve our states’ Net Zero goal by the 2050 target. For the summer you will conduct policy analysis, oversee policy development, and draft external communications that will be shared with different stakeholders.
US Sustainability (Waltham, MA)
Our US Sustainability team provides support to the company, as we look to achieve our environmental sustainability goals. Support provided includes overseeing sustainability programs and initiatives, assembling the greenhouse gas emissions inventory, providing internal and external reporting on emissions, and creating long-term emissions reductions plans. For the summer you will be supporting different projects like collecting ESG reporting deliverables, identifying quarterly greenhouse gas emissions projections calculations, and creating sustainability related articles for employees.
What You’ll Need
- Availability to start on program start date, June 5, 2023
- Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2023 Semester
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
- Majoring in Public Policy, Government Relations, Pre-Law, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Criminal Justice, or a related field
- Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
- Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
- Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location for the summer
- Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range
$18.00 – $23.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)
$26.00 – $31.00 an hour (Graduate Student)
Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year.
