Fixed term position (18 months)
An interdisciplinary team, including Principal Investigator Fabien Durand (coastal oceanographer), LEGOS/IRD) and Co-Investigators Joyce Chen (Economist, The Ohio State University), Valerie Mueller (Economist, Arizona State University) and Laurent Testut (coastal oceanographer, University of a Rochelle) are seeking a Post-doc or Research Engineer to assist in mapping flooding risk vulnerability in Bangladesh. The candidate will be under the direct supervision of Durand, Chen, Mueller and Testut, and will be based in LIENSs lab at the University of La Rochelle, France. The expectation of this position is to perform statistical analysis using existing surveys to feed into the collaborative design and implementation of a policy tool. The candidate will also provide auxiliary research support to Chen and Mueller on evaluating the socio-economic impacts of flooding in Bangladesh.
Minimum Qualifications: candidates must hold a Master’s degree or PhD by the time of appointment in a field of social science or related interdisciplinary major, e.g. geography, economics, sociology, political science, environmental science and technology. The candidate must have previous experience performing statistical analysis using standard software programs (SAS, Stata, R, Python, etc.) on large-scale socio-economic surveys for professors at universities or other research practitioners, or as part of completing their own thesis.
Desired qualifications: demonstrated success of research ability through co-authored publications; a completion of an empirical thesis; or report for an agency or consultancy; skills in GIS, remote sensing, and/or machine learning techniques.

The position will be for 18 months. There is some flexibility in the starting date, but ideally the starting date would be January 15, 2021.
Payment schemes are based on French public salaries for the following degree holders and experience.
• MSc diploma: 1900 euros/month or more, depending on past experience
• PhD diploma: 2000 euros/month or more, depending on past experience
