Bay Area Career Trip (California): Food, Research, Health, Non-Profit, Policy/Advocacy

Join the Friedman School’s Block Career Center for an immersive career exploration trip to San Francisco and the Bay Area, a region recognized for its pioneering work across food systems, health technology, community impact, and public policy. Over the course of 2.5 days, students will engage with 6 diverse organizations—from mission-driven startups and healthcare innovators to policy think tanks and global leaders in food and nutrition.

Participants will explore how professionals across these sectors are addressing complex challenges such as health equity, sustainability, and policy reform. Through site visits, panel discussions, hands-on activities, and an alumni networking event, students will gain unique insights into a variety of impactful career pathways.

Key Highlights:

  • In-person visits to organizations leading in research food innovation, nutrition and biotech, healthcare delivery, and evidence-based policy.
  • Networking with Friedman School alumni and industry professionals across diverse sectors.
  • Exposure to career paths in entrepreneurship, advocacy, research, public health, and sustainability.

All students enrolled in a Friedman School degree program are welcome. The Career Trip is designed to support professional exploration, broaden perspectives, and build connections to global leaders shaping the future of food, health, and policy.

Who is leading the trip? The Block Career Center

Do I have to Pay for it: All accepted students for the career trip have to pay their own way. However, the Block Career Center will be giving everyone $1000 to defray some of the cost.
